Clarification on Testing of In-Shell Nuts by FSSAI Notified Food Testing Laboratories
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued an official clarification regarding the testing of in-shell nuts such as almonds. It has been observed that different laboratories have been testing these products against various standards, leading to confusion among stakeholders.
As per sub-regulation 2.3.47 (5) of the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, the prescribed standards for dry fruits and nuts apply to unshelled (in-shell) nuts as well. Therefore, all FSSAI-notified food testing laboratories, operating under Sections 43(1) and 43(2) of the FSS Act, 2006, must ensure that such products are tested strictly in accordance with these standards.
This clarification aims to standardize testing procedures and eliminate inconsistencies in the analysis of in-shell nuts across different laboratories.
